BC Cancer Foundation
Thrifty Foods is helping to bring a critical diagnostic tool to Vancouver Island. In December 2016, Thrifty Foods announced a generous $1 million donation to help kick-start the $5 million needed to bring a PET/CT scanner to Vancouver Island. This is an integral piece of equipment to treat cancer patients. To have this equipment here on Vancouver Island and have scans done locally would free patients on Vancouver Island from having to travel to the lower mainland for imaging tests.
Supporting Local Hospital Foundations
Thrifty Foods supports 12 of our local hospital foundations whether through in store campaigns or fundraising event support. During the month of May 2017, as part of our 40th Birthday celebrations, Thrifty Foods together with our customers raised $17,570.55 from the sales of our product of the month, 3¢ bag rebates and generous donations at the till.
Canadian Cancer Society
Cops for Cancer - Tour de Rock, Tour de Coast, Tour de Valley
Since 2000, Thrifty Foods has proudly supported the bicycle riders participating in Cops for Cancer events on the Mainland and Vancouver Island. Thrifty Foods also provides members of the teams with nourishing food and transportation.
In 2011, we proudly supported one of our store employees, James Matsuda, who rode in the Vancouver Island route and Thrifty Foods raised $101,000 as a donation to the Tour!
Victoria Hospitals Foundation
VISIONS Gala Fundraiser
The Victoria Hospitals Foundation annually hosts a wonderful gala event supporting both the Royal Jubilee Hospital and Victoria General Hospital. Thrifty Foods has supported this event for many years through food donations and items for the sought after auction during the event.
Gingerbread Houses
One of employee's favorite volunteer events of the year is visiting with the children who are required to stay in the hospital during the Christmas season. Teams bring all the ingredients to build gingerbread houses at Jenecee Place in Victoria and BC Childrens Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre hospitals in Vancouver.
BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities
Thrifty Foods is proud to have supported both the BC Lions Society for many years. Thrifty Foods and our customers raise funds to benefit children with disabilities throughout British Columbia. During the month of January 2017, as part of our 40th Birthday fundraising efforts, together we raised over $23,000 from the sales of the product of the month, 3¢ bag rebates and generous donations at the till.
BC Children's Hospital Foundation
The BC Children's Hospital Foundation fundraises throughout BC to support child health in BC. In addition to the events below, our employees visit both the BC Children's Hospital and Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children during the Christmas season to decorate gingerbread houses with the children and their families.
Children's Miracle Network / BC Children's Hospital Jeans Day
As part of the Children's Miracle Network, Thrifty Foods presented a cheque for over $23,000 in 2017. The funds were raised by all Thrifty Foods locations from the sale of Jeans Day buttons and other store initiatives. During the month of April 2017, as part of our 40th Birthday fundraising efforts, together Thrifty Foods and our customers raised over $13,000 from the sales of the product of the month, 3¢ bag rebates and generous donations at the till.
Heart & Stroke
During the month of February, as part of our 40th Birthday fundraising efforts, Thrifty Foods and our customers raised over $12,000 from the sales of the product of the month, 3¢ bag rebates and generous donations at the till.
Island Prostate Centre and Prostate Cancer Foundation of BC
During the month of June, as part of our 40th Birthday fundraising efforts, Thrifty Foods and our customers raised over $15,000 from the sales of the product of the month, 3¢ bag rebates and generous donations at the till.
